Last week I posted about some Social Media Research I was doing to see what tweets at what times get the most clicks. My goals this week were to continue to tweet out quality links using HootSuite and to also schedule the posts with Google Plus using the Do Share app for Chrome. This constituted a switch from Safari as my primary browser to Google Chrome. (FYI-I will be posting about my history with browsers later this week.) I simply copy and pasted the scheduled Tweets from Hootsuite into Do Share. HootSuite tracks all links that are shortened with their ow.ly and I use the same links to cross post to Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, and LinkedIn. There is one major problem with Do Share. In order for it to work, Google Chrome and Google Plus must be opened at the time of the scheduled posts which meant that if my computer was off or in transit with me there would be not posts. They were nice us enough to give me this warning:
What were this week’s results?
Last week the clicks declined drastically from Monday to Friday, but this week they actually went up(the above picture includes weekends when I don’t schedule any tweets). I attribute that to 2 things. First, I posted to Google Plus this week which gave me a broader audience. Secondly, I had a blog post that got a great bit of traffic on Thursday due to retweets, mentions, and sharing. Plus, it included the #hashtag to the popular NewSpring Leadership Conference, #nlc, I was attending that day.

Here’s what got the most clicks this week:
My top clicked link last week only had 30 clicks. It was this great article from David Drury(click his name to follow him on Twitter) entitled Why I am a Wesleyan. This week I had 2 links that garnered more clicks. Unfortunately, link #2 was a bad one as I had misspelled www.therecholgyshow.com instead of thetechologyshow.com. Note to self: double check all links. I only had one link that received no clicks this week. That’s the first time that’s happened.
This week I will stop scheduling tweets for 3 and 4 pm and instead send out tweets at 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. Expect links to new blogs I’ve discovered, my blog posts, cool infographics, Wesleyan stuff, Tech news, books/resources and social media links this week. My goal is to use social media to make the world a better place.
How often do you post to Twitter, Facebook, or Google Plus? Do you post the same things to each? What kind of links are you more likely to click on? Please leave a comment and use the share buttons below to spread the love.

I post the same content (mostly my blog links) to FB, Twitter and G+. Twitter is also one way I promote others content or bring something up for discussion that I don’t have time or desire to write a blog post on. FB is also for friendships and networking. I don’t used Linkedin.
Regarding your research on times to post. I have found that it is better if I post in the morning, so I catch all the non-west-coasters by noon. Also, I just posted on a Sunday night, and that post got no love, even with a follow up tweet and the feedburner emails going out Monday morning. It was either a really bad post or Sunday/Monday is a really bad time for new content.

My next step is to improve my Tweet “headlines” to see if that increases my clicks.
