I watched every season of the Apprentice but did not watch season 1 of Celebrity Apprentice. Season 2 has kicked off with some big names…at least on the men’s side. Celebrity just means famous now. It doens’t necessarily mean that you’ve contributed anything to become famous. If not for the big names on the men’s side I wouldn’t be watching again. The men have Scott Hamilton, Brian McKnight, Andrew Dice Clay(fired), Dennis Rodman, Clint Black, Jesse James, Herschel Walker, and Tom Green. Some are not as famous as others, but they’ve all had real jobs. On the women’s side there’s Joan Rivers, Melissa Rivers(can you say nepotism?), Khloe Kardasian(Reality star?), one of the girls from TLC, Annie Duke(who you wouldn’t know if you didn’t watch poker on cable), a former Playmate(which you wouldn’t know if you didn’t watch the first episode), and the other two I have no clue who they were. If they were really celebrities then there would be no need to flash their name and profession(?) at the bottom of th screen. Who decides what people are famous? Atheletes and Artists have talent(well most do anyway) and people pay money to see their movies, shows, games, concerts, etc. Does anyone actually watch “Keeping up with the Kardasians?” Once you’re on reality TV the entertainment shows promote you and then the real news shows pick up on those stories as well. It’s a cycle of news that gives us Ms. Suleman(mother of 14), Paris Hilton, K-Fed(up) and helped propel a relative newcomer to the presidency. The line that seperates news and entertainment no longer exists and unless you never watch TV and never stand in a check out line then you can’t escape it. Is it our fault that we’ve become so voyeuristic that we have to peek into everyone’s life or are the networks who shove these people down our throat to blame? All it takes is a great youtube video to get your 15 minutes of fame. I’m pretty sure I’ve blogged on this before so I apologize if I’m repeating myself. Is there a meeting somewhere every morning where a group of people decides who is going to be made famous that day? I wish Chris Tomlin was still selling those “I am not Famous” shirts. I need an XL and can I buy one for Melissa Rivers as well?
