Christian movies often get panned by movie critics across the country. With the success of movies like “The Blind Side”, movies that express the values of faith appear to be “welcome” at the box office. Long-time author Karen Kingsbury has a book coming to theaters on September 24 with the release of “Like Dandelion Dust.” I have seen the preview and all I can say is “Powerful.” Here’s a brief description of Like Dandelion Dust
:
In a quiet Florida town, life is idyllic for Jack and Molly Campbell and their 4-year-old son, Joey. But one day a phone call shatters their peace. A social worker reports that Joey’s biological father, newly released from prison, wants his son back. Can Jack devise a plan to circumvent a judge’s devastating decision?
Mira Sorvina, Berry Pepper, Kate Levering, Maxwell Perry Cotton, and Cole Hauser(yes, I can connect all these people to Kevin Bacon) bring familiar faces to a picture that has already won a handful of awards. How many times have you seen a Christian movie with a bunch of unknowns?
Opening weekend is important for any movie, but for movies like this it is a matter of survival. A poor opening often leads to fewer screens the next weekend. I encourage you to research the movie/novel and encourage people to see it on opening weekend. Christians shouldn’t complain about Hollywood not producing enough family/faith films if we’re not willing to go see them early and often.
