1. Saw Iron Man last Friday and thought it was one of the best and truest to the source material comic movies ever. They updated well to the modern era.
2. Indiana Jones opens in three weeks and I’m going to love whether I want to or not. I am a bit disturbed by all the toys thought especially the one with the ark of the covenant. Creepy. I don’t care that he’s got a kid, or is getting older. I main complaint with Lucas and Speilberg would be if they use computers for too many of the stunts. What made the first 3 Indy movies great was the realism and lack of computer tampering.
3. Matt and Deborah are moving today. Wonder if she’s wearing the nice boots that Matt just bought her.
4. Continue to pray for Matt and Ashley Smith who are home awaiting the birth of their twins. Ashley had been in the hospital for around 3 weeks while they monitored and tried to keep her from going into labor. Now everything looks good and they’re home resting.
5. Also pray for Eddie and Martha Marie Smith. Martha Marie came through her surgery okay. You can get updates at www.eddiesmith.com
6. Pray for Karen and I. We are both getting a little nervous because several churches have not called us back. Our goal was to line up interviews for Memorial Day weekend, but time is running out to get that done. We know we are in God’s hands, He has heard our needs and desires, and we are resting in that. By resting I mean working the phones and emails as consistently as I can. Some guys told me yesterday that I should a puppet to my repertoire.
7. Have mega churches in sense formed their own denomination? Most have the same form of leadership structure(gee, I wonder if that has anything to do with their success?) and little or no ties to a denomination. I have no problem with that and most people who don’t like mega churches are people who don’t attend mega churches. I agree with Perry Noble that they are not a new idea, but God bringing back the days of Acts when thousands gathered, heard the gospel, and were saved.
8. I will be making some big blog changes in the next week or so to make this blog better and more accessible. Thanks to everyone who gave input and ideas. Just waiting on the web team of Mullikin, Mullikin, Mullikin, Mullikin, and Mullikin.
9. Geek moment of the day-I can’t wait for the new Ric Flair DVD coming out this summer.
10. It’s daughter date day with Charis-I’m hoping she picks Pizza Hut.
9.
Wednesday web thoughts
1. Saw that Tony Morgan has made some major changes. I may be giving in to the WordPress peer pressure as well. I am also making the switch to gmail, calendar, etc. One final question to get me over the wordpress hump-how do I get my own domain name with it?
2. I was thinking-outside of church related activities, is there anything about my life that shows I’m a follower of Christ? Mike’s been talking a lot about being more than “Sunday” Christians. I think a lot of people are expecting to get into heaven when they weren’t even open to people attending their church. And when did the point become-to get into heaven? I think that cheapens the gospel. If anything, I think Jesus died to bring heaven to earth through the lives of his people. Don’t get me started.
3. The million dollar question of the day is-how big of a challenge am I looking for? I know God has called me away from where I’m at but where to and to what situation? There’s one opportunity that’s just screaming “Stay Away!” and I’m trying to decide if it’s the Spirit or pride saying-Dude, something amazing could happen there. I’ll keep you posted.
4. Kris sent the funny txt of the month and it’s only May 7th. I laughed out loud and almost woke up the kids.
5. Still waiting on some people to call me back about some jobs. One day the story will be told.
6. Can’t decide how I feel about “Operation Chaos.” Or the uncompleted project we do not speak of. Thought it was funny that Clinton gave an Indiana victory speech and then had to sweet out the final hours of vote counting. Very entertaining television, but I stayed up way too late.
7. Jo Anne Lyon was amazing Friday night. That lady has story after story of how God is moving around the world. This is a lady that doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty and she’s trying to get the rest of us pew warming Wesleyans to join the fight.
8. Had a daughter date with Milena today. Get to take Charis to McDonald’s tomorrow. She wants to find one with a slide. No play places please. I’m still sore from the one in Milton, Pa.
That’s it for today. I’m swamped!
The Drake Gets a Haircut
1. Karen took the kids for a haircut yesterday. I’ve got the cutest kids in the world. There’s no contest. I swear Drake gets cuter everyday. I am striving as a father to treat all 3 of them as individuals and not always group the girls together. So, I’m making an effort to have date days with each of them this week. Karen took them to see Nim’s Island yesterday.
2. It’s amazing what God has been revealing to me recently. He is helping me understand so many things about His will, His love and protection for us. If only He would reveal where He wants us to go…
3. We live in the wealthiest country in the history of the world…and young men can’t afford belts to keep their pants up while many young women can only afford half a shirt. Weird.
4. I didn’t make People’s list of the most beautiful people in the world. One list I did make was this one. I’ve also added Mark Wilson’s blog, Revitalize Your Church. He’s the Wesleyan version of Tony Morgan. He has excellent posts and insights.
5. The Atlanta Hawks had a great series against the Celtics. They actually had some sellouts at Philips Arena. Hope they know that people paid to see the Celtics although the Hawks have put together a nice roster. If only they had taken Chris Paul instead of Marvin Williams. Can you imagine of backcourt of Joe Johnson and Paul? Think Boston and Phoenix regret letting Johnson go?
6. Is it really May 6? Dat gum.
7. Check out nceyouth.com-That’s the camp I’ll be speaking at next month.
Dudes, I’m heading to study at Starbucks-peace!
Get out the map
1. One thing Karen and I do every night is get out our atlas and try to find the places where we’ve sent resumes. They are mostly in the East, but it’s amazing how jobs are open in the same areas(not the same churches) as last year. Right now it’s like playing dominos. Every event affects another. While waiting to hear from one church we miss out on an interview at another church. It’s quite a frustrating process. Whether you’re raising support to go overseas, looking for a new church, or trying to get your current church to make necessary changes, ministry can be frustrating. I do think that we have to be careful not to become frustrated ourselves by the circumstances. We have to remember the day we first encountered Christ, the day we were called into ministry, the miracles we’ve seen and experienced, and the primal yells of years past to keep our chins up and our eyes on the prize. On a lighter note…
2. If they sold Frosted Flakes flavored milk I would drink it and buy stock in it. You have to be careful though. This morning, I drank too much too fast and got a little sicky.
3. What did we do before txt messaging?
4. I’m still anti-twitter. Seems like a big waste of time.
5. I am still loving the wrestler app on Facebook. My record is 11-6.
6. During this whole job hunt thing, I’ve found how many churches and districts have no website or poorly run websites. Also, people don’t update their email addresses regularly.
7. Going to see Iron Man tomorrow. Hope it’s good and there’s other Marvel movie tie-ins.
Have a great day!
Last Day of April
1. Was watching Cinderella Man the other day with Karen. I totally love this movie. Is there a better movie to watch when you’re a little down? Karen was out of town when I saw it in the theaters. I was the only person in there so I basically rented the place for $6. It was a great experience and its a movie I never grow tired of. The best part is when Lasky uppercuts him and Braddock smiles at him after he staggers a bit.
2. Karate Kid was on AMC last night. Had to stop and watch a bit. How did the song “you’re the best around” not get any radio play? Again, I say Pat Morita was robbed of an Oscar.
3. We are waiting to hear back from some churches and pastors about job opportunities. Nothing concrete yet.
4. Chi United is having our first Missions Conference this weekend with Dr. Jo Anne Lyon, Sin Cadenas, and Dan and Joy Irvine.
5. Matt sent me an amazingly encouraging text message last night. He thinks I’ve got a lot more primal yells left in me.
6. Does anyone know how to track readers in blogger? I just want to make sure no one is stalking me.
7. Finally, Breakout was awesome. Everyday Sunday was there and were very friendly, even to the middle school girls from my church who could only make high pitched screaming sounds in their presence. Did you know they have two new(different) band members. The drummer and bass player are different than the guys on the cover of their last CD. The only bad thing was my 3 guys got robbed in the 3 on 3 tourney. I had to be a mature leader while there and just get them to walk away, but between us, it was a travesty. The score got changed mid-game, the timer buzzed to end the game while we were ahead, and there was a horrible call at the end. It seemed shady cause we got beat by a team from the host church. I know it’s just a game, but I’m more angry about how it affected my boys than anything.
There’s a new poll so check it out and vote.
I’ll make this brief..
Many of you have been praying about a job opportunity we had in North Carolina. We found out yesterday(how we found out is a whole other story) that we did not get the job. So, we are continuing to seek the Lord’s will. We know that He has brought us to this place and are open to anything. This is an important step for us as our kids will be starting school soon. We have other options at this point, but no clear leading from the Lord. I’ve got to go home and take a nap before the big lock-in tonight so have a great weekend.
