Rob Bell Resources and Drops Like Stars Tour Review

Friday night, a group from our church attended Rob Bell’s Drops Like Stars tour stop in Charlotte, NC.  I read the book last week and, for the most part, that’s what the event covers.  He used some great images from the book as a backdrop and the one with the hospital hallway looming behind was a stunning visual.  The event was quite interactive(I still smell the soap I opened-hey you’ll have to go see for yourself) and mind blowing as I’ve come to expect from Mr. Bell.  Bonus points for getting to meet him and get some stuff signed after the event.  That was a great exclamation point to what had already been an amazing week.   I’ve seen all his videos and read all the books personally.  I even got to see the God’s Aren’t Angry tour in Philly with Adam Jones.  He challenges my thinking(doesn’t change my thinking all the time, but he engages the brain like few authors can) and broadens my views of God’s grace and mercy.  “Everything is Spiritual” should be required viewing for all humans.

I came upon the story of Austin Gutwein and it is truly remarkable. He’s got my vote for the Lion Chaser Hall of Fame. This book (Take Your Best Shot: Do Something Bigger Than Yourself) chronicles his journey to help suffering people in Africa. Ever asked yourself if one kid can make a difference? This book’s answer is a resounding: YES! This story captures the heart of what Chase Your Lion dot com is all about. It’s about people using their passion to fulfill their purpose through amazing possibilities. This book not only tells Austin’s story, but has lots of information on other possibilities that await you.

It’s funny how things work out sometimes.  Readers of http://www.heathmullikin.com know that I signed up with a MLM/network marketing company about 6 months ago.  John Maxwell has a book entitled, “Failing Forward”, and that pretty much sums up my experience.  When I joined that company I spent hours researching how to build my business online instead of the more traditional “ask everyone I know to join” approach.  Those hours did not go to waste as my mind and life were opened to whole new world of possibilities.  6 months ago, I didn’t know the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org.  I had never heard of Clickbank, SEO, Adsense, PPC, affiliate marketing, e-books, or SocialOomph.  I didn’t even have a Twitter account at the time.  Gasp!  I didn’t know who David Risley, John Chow, Ty Tribble, or Bill Crosby were.  There came a point of intersection sometime in August when what I had learned online the last 6 months met who I was created to be.  “What am I gonna do?” became chaseyourlion.com.  The education wasn’t always free and the people I learned from weren’t always believers.  They are all lion chasers in their own way, though.  What started out as a quest to make some extra money on the side has become something far more significant.  I will be getting into more detail about all of this in future posts.  And remember, don’t complain about where you are in life because it ain’t ever gonna change until you decide where you’re going.

Francis Chan's new book, Forgotten God

If you haven’t read Crazy Love by Francis Chan then put it on your to do list.  It is one of those books that really inspired me in a way that few books have.  By inspire, I mean slap me in the face with the reality of the depths of God’s love and the shallowness of my life.  I don’t know if I will ever recover from the lukewarm chapter.  It has spawned a sermon or too for me.  His new book, Forgotten God, was recently released. Let me know what you think of these two great books.  There are small group DVD
